Our Style

Capturing the authentic interactions between my clients and memorializing the honest and genuine love for one another is one of my favourite parts of being a photographer. We will help guide you throughout the process to ensure a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, but our objective and passion is to capture sincere moments that will commemorate your family’s bond season to season.

During your session, we will incorporate a little bit of everything. Unlike the strict and confining space of studio portraits, we encourage movement and interaction for a lively and synergetic atmosphere that will capture the organic moments of your life to reminisce on. We love to have fun!

All I have to say is WOW. I can’t get over how beautiful our family photos turned out. They are easily the nicest photos taken of us and my girls. I will 100% continue to book Brendan to do our pictures. He is professional, fun to work with, and does a very quick turn around on the images.

FAQ’S

What is your shooting style?

As a lifestyle photographer, my style is geared towards capturing real moments. This means prioritizing genuine interactions rather than posing and creating a fun atmosphere because that’s when the magic happens!

What if my kids won’t engage?

Many children are shy or have a hard time posing for photos, which is why we focus on having a fun experience rather than forcing poses. Just enjoy each others company and we will take care of the photos!

5 Wardrobe Tips

Pick a colour combination for your family to work within to ensure a cohesive style. We do not recommend wearing a single colour or having each family member wearing different patterns and colours. Coordination is key!

While the idea of seasonal outfits may be appealing (for example, Christmas or Halloween themed), our aim is to produce photos that you can display in your home year round! If you are interested in booking a session that is themed, please reach out to us to inquire about specialty sessions!

We recommend earth tones, textures, and solid colours. This will ensure a timeless and classic look and will guarantee that your outfits are still in style years from now.

Fitted clothing is preferred over baggy or loose fitting frocks (for example, baggy jeans, sweatpants or loose fitting shirts and blouses). Aim for clothing that is slightly tighter than what you would normally wear. We recommend layers to provide visual interest and movement, such as a dress with a shawl or cardigan.Simplicity is always best, so when in doubt keep in mind that “less is more.”

Avoid patterns and stripes.

For children, comfortable clothing that has been “broken in” for a few days prior to your session is recommended. This ensures your child becomes used to the feeling of wearing that outfit, and makes for a much more enjoyable photo session.

Your Session

Location

Edmonton offers some amazing scenery. If you’re looking for a spot nearby, please let me know and I would love to offer some ideas! Think of places that compliment your personality and are accessible for everyone.

What to bring

We recommend bringing whatever you need to ensure a comfortable experience. Water and snacks are always an excellent idea. If preferred, makeup can be brought for touch-ups. Four legged friends are more than welcome if well socialized and your chosen location allows pets. For sessions in the warmer months, sunscreen and bug spray is recommended.

Timing

Evening or morning light (also known as the golden hour) is our favourite time to take photographs. We try to schedule all sessions either early in the morning or an hour before sunset when possible.

 It’s all in the details

Here are a couple other preparation details and suggestions:

  • Avoid logos, as they can be distracting.
  • Neutral colors such as beige, white, black, tan and grey often photograph the best, I’m always a big fan of earthy tones that  compliment your skin tones and don’t conflict with common background elements.
  • Always dress with the full length in mind. Include shoes and socks in your wardrobe consideration. Shoe styles should be simple and not distracting.
  • If you normally wear glasses, you should wear them for your session as you want you to look like you usually do.
  • Wear minimal jewelry for your portrait. Jewelry that you wear on a daily basis is fine, but I usually suggest not to wearing lots of extra jewelry that you usually wouldn’t wear.
  •  You may be more comfortable with having your hair and make-up professionally done, or you may be more comfortable doing it yourself. Whichever you choose, it is crucial that you feel beautiful and confident.

Your clothing selection and choice of location will contribute to the final feel and look of your photos. Please feel free to contact us with photos of your ideas or questions regarding your session.
